Anurag Basu: 'We are not scared of Hollywood'

Anurag Basu has said Indian filmmakers are not scared of box office clashes with Hollywood films.

Speaking to The Times of India, the Barfi! director said that while other film industries have suffered because of the dominance of Hollywood, Indian cinema maintains a stronghold at the box office.

"We stand tall while most of the film industries all over the world have suffered because of Hollywood. But we are not scared," he said.

"I am not scared to release my film along with movies like Spider-Man or a Tom Cruise flick."

Basu, whose film Barfi! has been selected as India's official entry in the 'Best Foreign Film' category at the Oscars, said that it is just a matter of time before Hollywood takes into account the box office clout of Bollywood.

"Soon Hollywood will have to see our release calendar before releasing their movie. They will release their films according to release of our movies," he said.

Basu has received widespread public and critical acclaim for his story of a deaf-mute boy searching for lasting love, and said he enjoyed playing "a small part of this lovely journey of the Indian cinema".
